For being the middle of February there is a plethora of racing going on all around the world this weekend.
Over in Finland fat bike endurance racers will be taking on the Rovaniemi 150. 150 wintry kilometers of trails, paths, B class roads, frozen lakes and rivers. Race day temperatures look to be a Brrrrrrr – isk -2 degrees. XXC Magazine plans to have some coverage from this race in the next issue due out this summer, so keep you ballz peeled for that.
Folks in Georgia have two races to choose from this weekend: The 6 hour Taco Stand Classic in Lawrenceville, GA or the 50 mile Southern Cross race in Dahloneg. So-Cross is the first race of the 2013 American Ultracross Championship Series and there will surely be a stacked field of super fast mountain bike, cross and road racers, including last year’s winner and recent CX Masters World Champion, Thomas Turner. As of Friday afternoon, it looks like the weather guru’s are calling for chilly temps and some possible morning snow showers in Dahlonega, that could make things interesting and feeling more Barry-Roubaix-ish for sure.
A bit further south down in Ocala, Florida racer will be taking on the ever popular 12 Hours of Santos. No word on how many “snow birds” made the trip down south to go racin’.
Here’s a look at the course in some video from last year’s race:
Day-um, those look like some fast and fun trails! I think the XXC really needs to road trip next winter, ’cause right now the mood around the office is about as cheerful as snow covered dog turd.
Next we leave the deep south behind and head north to Minnesota where 100 racers will be taking on the Fatbike Frozen 40. The 40 mile “triple F” is race #3 of the Great Lake’s Fat Bike Series and looks to be frozen indeed with race day highs in teens. XXC has more than a few friends heading to the race including our buddy Ben Welnak from Mountain Bike Radio who is helping out with the race. I’m sure in the near future we’ll be talking to him and getting some race coverage from our other reporters “embedded” at the race.
If you like to keep your February racing fat and snowy there is also the Fun Promotions Fat Bike Series race in Saugatuck, Michigan.
Lastly we warm back up and head to the deserts of Arizona for the BIG race of the weekend– The 24 Hours In The Old Pueblo. There is a desert full of FAST and experienced endurance racers out there looking to lay down laps for twenty four hours as part of teams, duos and solos. We previewed the Solo race on the blog the other day, I urge you to check it out, ’cause there is some sick talent in the Solo cats.
Check out this video for a look at the course:
XXC wishes good luck and safe racing to all the racers competing this weekend, all over the endurance world. Stay tuned to xxcmag.com next week for results and more from this weekend’s racing.
