2013 Huracan 300

The 2013 edition of the Huracan 300 is scheduled to kick off this Friday, March 15th. The Huracan 300 is a three hundred mile, self supported, solo mountain bike race that is billed as the “ultimate off-road endurance experience in the state of Florida.” The 300 mile loop includes over 100-miles of singletrack, remote double track forest roads, abandoned paths and even a little bit of pavement. Racers cross numerous forests, The Cross Florida Greenway, two mountain bike parks and miles of some of Florida’s longest and hardest climbs (what, you think there’s no climbing in Florida?).

Like so many self supported ultra-endurace races, there are no prizes, just bragging rights and the knowledge that you are a freaking badass who was up to the challenges of the Huracan.

This year mtbcast.com will be hosting call-ins for racers, so check that out and follow the racers as they take on the Huracan.

Winter Motivation

elandbackAs we mentioned a week or so back, our friend in the U.K. Paul Errington was set to take on Bear Bones Bikepacking’s El and Back adventure in the Elan Valley of Wales. The event is in the books and Paul has done a recap of his El and Back experience for Salsa Cycles. I urge you to check it out to see what the event is all about and to see the pics that his friend Paul Pomfret snagged during the event.

Pre El-an Back

This weekend XXC’s friend in the U.K. Paul Errington is headed to Wales to take on the 2013 El-an Back presented by the fine folks at Bear Bones Bikepacking.

As you can see here, Paul has chosen to take on this bikepacking race time trial event on his singlespeed Salsa Mukluk (dear God man!)

If you would like to see more about the El-an Back, check out some of the other Bear Bones events or just see what our bikepacking friends on the other side of the pond are up to visit bearbonesbikepacking.co.uk.

XXC wishes Paul and all the racers the best of luck on their adventure this weekend, enjoy some “post race tea and cake” for me! Can’t wait to hear how it went.

I’m just hoping at some point Paul can find out how to pronounce the name of the school that serves as the event’s start/finish line.. Ysgol Llanbrynmair junior school. Yikes!
