The folks at the Absa Cape Epic have been putting together some video profiles of some of the Elite teams that are taking part in the 2013 edition of the Cape Epic. The have also taken the time to honor racer Burry Stander who was killed on January 3rd when he was involved a collision with a taxi while training in South Africa.
In 2011 Stander became the first ever South African winner of the event. Since his Absa Cape Epic debut in 2008, Stander entered the event 6 times, won 20 stages with teammate Christoph Sauser and walked away with overall honors twice. In 2013 Sauser will be partnering with Specialized teammate and 2012 Olympic champion Jaroslav Kulhavy, riding in memory of their late friend and teammate. In a recent statement Sauser said “Nobody can replace Burry, because we all have individual personalities! I am so fortunate that Jaro can fill in the big gap for Burry at the ABSA Cape-Epic. We cannot wait to race our hearts out for Burry, his family, friends, his foundation Songo and ourselves too. It will be my most emotional ABSA Cape-Epic ever.”
